One seriously injured, one arrested after shooting at pro-Israel rally in Newton – Boston 25 News

NEWTON, Massachusetts – One person suffered life-threatening injuries and another was arrested after a shooting occurred at a pro-Israel rally in Newton Thursday night.

The person was shot during a pro-Israel demonstration at the corner of Washington Street and Harvard Street, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a press conference.

Ryan said the victim approached the group at the rally and attacked one of the protesters, which led to a scuffle on the ground.

Scott Hayes, 47, of Framingham then fired his weapon, seriously wounding the victim. Hayes was in legal possession of the gun, Ryan said.

Officials said there would be increased police patrols around places of worship in the coming days.

Several patrol cars, police officers, crime scene tape, and evidence markers on the ground were visible at the intersection.

Small amounts of debris and what appeared to be medical supplies were also seen scattered on the street corner.

Hayes is scheduled to be arraigned in Newton District Court on Friday.
