CPW confirms death of another gray wolf

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado (KJCT) – Colorado Parks and Wildlife has confirmed the death of another male wolf.

In December 2023, a total of 10 gray wolves were reintroduced to Grand County in Colorado.

The male wolf died on September 10 and is not believed to be associated with the Copper Creek pack. The cause and manner of death have not been disclosed.

“We received a death signal from the GPS collar of wolf 2307 on September 9th. Our staff confirmed his death on September 10th. This male wolf was one of 10 released by Colorado Parks and Wildlife in December 2023. While this is sad news, expected mortality is taken into account when planning this type of recovery effort, and some level of wolf mortality, as with all wildlife, is to be expected both during recovery efforts and on an ongoing basis,” said CPW Director Jeff Davis.

CPW says it is currently in contact with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under the Re-Introduction Act to plan next steps.
