DRUG BREAK IN BURNING FORK – Salyersville Independent

BURNING FORK – A Magoffin County man was arrested Monday night in Burning Fork after police saw him in a car and knew there was a warrant out for his arrest.

According to the arrest warrant, on September 9, Deputies N. Watson, D. Watson and T. Lafferty of the Magoffin County Sheriff's Department were sitting at Bradley Church in Burning Fork discussing setting up a security checkpoint when they noticed Charles Monroe McGuire, 48, of Salyersville, riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle. Knowing there was a warrant for his arrest, the officers conducted a traffic stop.

McGuire reportedly presented police with an ID that belonged to another person. Police then removed him from the vehicle. He was handcuffed and informed that he was being arrested for providing false identification to police. After police confirmed his name, he was also informed that he was being arrested on two outstanding warrants.

The driver of the vehicle consented to a search, and during a search of McGuire's belongings, officers found: a 9 mm handgun, 40.37 grams of a rock-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, 39.07 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, 42.33 grams of marijuana, a brown vial containing an unknown drug, three digital scales and a glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue, according to the indictment.

McGuire was taken into custody and transported to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where he remains as of press time. He was charged with the following new counts: possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree, second offense or greater (more than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, second offense, unspecified drug, and providing false identification information to a police officer.
