'I'm so honored': Zooey Deschanel talks about the 'amazing' Bridgerton kiss inspired by a passionate scene from New Girl

Bridgerton season 3 was in the news for several positive reasons. Audiences loved the chemistry between Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, who played the roles of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.

One of the scenes from the show that delighted fans was a spontaneous kiss between the characters. In an interview with showrunner Jess Brownell, she revealed that the kiss was inspired by Nick and Jess' passionate kiss from New Girl.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly to promote the third season of Bridgerton, Brownell said: “Nicola sent a clip of Nick and Jess' first kiss from New Girl, which is also a very passionate, heartwarming kiss.”

The latest season of the Netflix series was full of intimate moments and fans are wondering if the closeness between the characters will continue in the upcoming episodes.

While promoting her new film Harold and the Purple Crayon, Deschanel expressed her excitement about the kissing scene. The 500 Days of Summer actress said, “Oh my God, I'm so honored, this is incredible.” She added, “The fact that it's been incorporated into a show like Bridgerton is incredible.”

The actress went into detail about the kiss between Nick and Jess in New Girl season 2, claiming that the writers and production team put a lot of thought into it as it was a key setting for the characters and the audience still had to figure out whether or not the main cast would end up together.

Deschanel played the role of Jess Day for seven seasons on the Fox Network series. New Girl was a light-hearted sitcom about a group of people finding their way through love and friendship.

The show's logline states: “Jess, a middle school teacher, moves into an apartment with three men after she catches her boyfriend with another woman and breaks up with him.”

The episodes of New Girl can be streamed on Disney+ and the three seasons of Bridgerton can be watched on Netflix.
