EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) – Five children and one adult were taken into police custody Thursday morning after a child pulled out a knife outside an Evanston public school.

The incident occurred in front of Haven Middle School, 2417 Prairie Ave. in northwest Evanston.

Police were called at 8 a.m. to a disturbance outside the school where a knife was brandished. Police said they did not know if the children attended Haven Middle School and stressed that the incident did not occur at the school.

Nobody was injured.

While the incident was investigated, Haven Middle School was placed on lockdown, as was nearby Kingsley Elementary School at 2300 Green Bay Road.

The adult and five children were arrested and taken to the Evanston police station, police said.

At least three children are facing charges, including violent conduct.

Police believe the incident stemmed from an altercation on Wednesday.
