Alaska Airlines flight aborts takeoff after near-traffic collision at BNA, authorities investigate

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – An Alaska Airlines flight was forced to abort its takeoff from Nashville International Airport Thursday morning due to a possible traffic conflict on the runway, the airline confirmed to WSMV4.

Alaska Airlines said Flight 369 received clearance for takeoff from air traffic control before it was aborted.

No one was injured in this incident. The passengers were transferred to another aircraft and are expected to arrive in Seattle late Thursday evening. There were 176 passengers and six crew members on board at the time of the incident.

The NTSB and FAA are investigating.

The NTSB is investigating the September 12 runway incursion at Nashville International Airport involving Alaska Airlines Flight 369, a Boeing 737 Max 9, and Southwest Airlines Flight 2029, a Boeing 737-700.

Alaska Airlines issued the following statement:

We would like to inform you of an incident this morning at Nashville International Airport. Alaska Airlines Flight 369 was aborted from takeoff due to a possible traffic conflict on the runway. The Alaska aircraft, en route to Seattle, had been cleared for takeoff by air traffic control.

We are grateful for the experience of our pilots who immediately applied the brakes to prevent the incident from escalating. We deeply regret that our guests and crew had to endure such a distressing experience. Fortunately, no injuries were reported by our guests or crew.

Our pilots train for such situations and handled the situation expertly. The crew taxied the aircraft off the runway and into the vicinity of the terminal, where the tires deflated as planned due to heat generated by the sudden stop on the runway. Our guests deplaneted and made it safely into the terminal. We are deploying another aircraft to Nashville to take our guests to Seattle, and they are scheduled to arrive this evening.

There were 176 passengers and six crew members on board. Maintenance technicians in Nashville are currently checking the aircraft.
