FDA classifies recalled popcorn as risky

Popcorn is being recalled due to an FDA risk classification.

Accordingly NewsweekOregon-based Kester Foods LLC has issued the recall for Butter & Yeast Popcorn manufactured by Yummy Monkey Organic. The reason for the recall is that the food labels do not state that the product contains milk. The recalled products only stated that the food contained butter and ghee.

The popcorn recall was announced on August 8 and affected 365 units shipped to both California and Oregon. The affected batches of the food had best-by dates of 9/21/24 and 10/13/24. They can also be identified by the UPC code 9 96692 66641 2.

The FDA has stated that the recall is a Class II risk. This type of risk is defined as “a situation in which use of or contact with an unlawful product may result in temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or the likelihood of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” the outlet reports.

Kester Food LLC and Yummy Monkey Organics did not respond to a request for comment.
