List of Kansas-area school districts investigating threats of ‘violence’ grows

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Two more Kansas City-area school districts have notified families that they are investigating threats against schools.

Both Bonner Springs Unified School District 204 and Kearney School District have been notified of the threat of violence.

Bonner Springs police said the threat involved Clark Middle School and gun violence.

An investigation into the threat began and it was concluded that it was not credible.

The Kearney School District said it received an anonymous tip about possible violence at its schools Wednesday evening through Missouri's Courage2Report system.

The district said it is working with Kearney police and that other law enforcement agencies are also investigating the case.

Classes took place on Thursday under increased security precautions.

“We recognize that recent school shootings in Georgia have caused anxiety among students, families and staff,” the district said in a message to families. “Rest assured that safety and security are our top priority every day.”

This week, at least six other large school districts in the Kansas City area investigated threats against their schools.

These include the Grandview School District, the Independence School District, the Kansas City Public Schools District, the Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools District, the Lee's Summit School District and the Raytown School District.

A Lee's Summit student was even arrested for allegedly posting threatening messages on social media.

According to official reports, there is an increase in non-credible threats against schools following a serious school shooting.

Last week, four people died and nine others were injured in a shooting at a school in the US state of Georgia.
