Incident at Rockford school leads to charges against woman | News

ROCKFORD (WREX) – On the morning of September 11, 2024, a tense situation occurred at Welsh School when a school employee was assaulted by an adult female.

Rockford Police responded to the incident, which occurred around 9:35 a.m. at 2100 Huffman Boulevard.

Shakeda Barfield, 33, of Rockford was reportedly involved in an altercation with a co-worker during a scheduled meeting.

During this meeting, the employee noticed what appeared to be bags of suspected cocaine falling from Barfield's clothing.

The employee collected the bags, which led to a confrontation between the two.

The situation quickly escalated and led to a physical altercation. The school was immediately cordoned off and the emergency services were called.

The employee suffered several non-life-threatening injuries in the incident.

Barfield was arrested by Rockford Police and is now being held in the county jail.

After reviewing the evidence, the Winnebago County District Attorney's Office filed several charges against her:

– Possession of a controlled substance

– Possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute

– Serious bodily harm/strangulation

– Serious bodily harm to a school employee

– Improper conduct

Please note that these charges are allegations at this time and Barfield is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
