Cape Coral motorcyclist arrested after fatal crash on I-75 in Lee County

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol announced Thursday that it arrested a 19-year-old motorcyclist from Cape Coral in connection with an investigation into a June crash.

The FHP Traffic Homicide Unit announced that Alexander Isbel Cruz was arrested on a warrant for involuntary manslaughter.

At the time of the crash, FHP determined Cruz's motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed, traveling between 96 and 106 miles per hour south on Interstate 75, south of mile marker 138 in Lee County. That's in Fort Myers on State Road 82.

Cruz's motorcycle collided with a second motorcycle that was also traveling south on Interstate 75. The driver of the second motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

  • Motorcyclist 1: (Cruz) Male, 18 years old, of Cape Coral, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. He was later released and arrested by the FHP on 9/12/24.
  • Motorcyclist 2: Male, 21 years old, of Cape Coral, pronounced dead on scene on 06/18/24.
