National Guard called to assist in fighting line fire in San Bernardino County

“We are working very well with all of our colleagues on the ground. We are using all the resources at our disposal,” said Cal Fire Battalion Chief Curtis Rhodes.

Several teams work together to combat line fire.

On Thursday, a special National Guard unit known as “Force Packages” arrived to help ensure the fire does not threaten the community.

A Cal Fire captain says there are four squads of 20 members each, for a total of 80. Rhodes says there is a National Guard representative, a Cal Fire captain and two firefighters.

He says crews are working in rugged and steep terrain.

And he says these crews play a critical role in fighting fires.

“They were a tremendous help throughout the entire firefight all week,” Rhodes said.
