Support for iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 will end for the Netflix app, requiring all users to run iOS 17 or later or iPadOS 17 or later to receive new updates, features, and bug fixes.

This means that iOS 16 users – mainly iPhone X owners and those who still own the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus models – will not be able to update to the version of the app that introduces the change.

The same goes for owners of the iPad Pro (1st generation) and iPad (5th generation), which continue to run versions of iPadOS 16, as support for these models was discontinued with ‌iPadOS 17‌.

Owners of these devices will still be able to use their current version of the Netflix app until it is deprecated, but again, there will be no new features or bug fixes. Owners of these older models will of course still be able to access Netflix via a browser.

To summarize, the following iPhone and iPad models will lose support for the Netflix app:

  • iPhone8
  • ‌iPhone‌ 8 Plus
  • iPhoneX
  • “iPad Pro” (1st generation)
  • “iPad” (5th generation)

The code strings referring to the upcoming change were found in the Netflix app by MacRumors Contributor Aaron Perris It is unknown which update will end support for the above Apple devices, but since the code strings are present in the latest version, the update will likely be released fairly soon.
