It should honestly be a compliment to MTV that Wednesday night's VMAs crowd was so loud that Bleacher's Jack Antonoff decided to protect his hearing by wearing earplugs at the event. But TMZ and Daily Mail saw things differently, claiming Antonoff was “sniped” for wearing AirPods during Katy Perry's performance and fielding complaints from X, formerly of Twitter. Antonoff decided to face his critics on home turf and released his own statement on the matter. “I want to tell you directly on my behalf that I did, in fact, use earplugs the other day,” Antonoff explained. “It's humiliating to admit that I use them on the plane and every night in my sleep. I have no choice but to apologize and thank those who reported this story because, while it is embarrassing for my family and me, I truly believe this was a very important and urgent issue that needed to be brought to light.” I am sorry to those I have disappointed. I will not be going to work today and will instead be thinking about using my earplugs and everyone who is affected.”

Fortunately, his break was short-lived. If his biggest crime was wearing foam, it shouldn't go to court.
