Russia: 35-year-old wanted to fight with Ukrainians and was arrested in Belgorod

Employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) They arrested a 35-year-old Russian citizen in the Belgorod region who wanted to join Ukraine as a fighter, reported the press office of the Belgorod regional department of the FSB.

According to the investigation, the detainee made contact with a Ukrainian paramilitary group that is considered terrorist and banned in Russia. The man wanted to cross the Russian-Ukrainian border illegally, but “his illegal activities were immediately thwarted by officers of the Russian FSB border guard in the Belgorod and Voronezh regions,” the agency said. The maximum penalty for the crimes committed by the man is up to 20 years in prison.
