Former county election official dies while awaiting child pornography trial

A former IT manager for the Palm Beach County Elections Office who was tried on assault and child pornography charges in 2019 has died, police records show.

Jeffrey Darter died Aug. 19 at a residence in The Acreage, according to an incident report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. He was 66. The agency confirmed it is conducting a death investigation but did not provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation. It redacted most of the report it provided.

An attempt to reach Darter's attorney, Michael Salnick, was unsuccessful. A spokesman for the Palm Beach County District Attorney's Office referred questions to the sheriff's office.
