Thousands of Alabama Power customers affected by Francine

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) – As of 8 a.m. Thursday morning, about 43,000 Alabama Power customers were affected by Francine, which has now been downgraded to a tropical depression, the utility reported.

Alabama Power's “self-healing network” and overnight workers have restored service to 29,500 customers, the company said. About 13,500 customers remain without service, Alabama Power said shortly after 9 a.m.

“Our crews will continue to work as quickly and safely as possible as more severe weather moves through our state today,” Alabama Power said. “Heavy rainfall is expected to soften the ground and may cause trees to fall onto power lines. Please remember to stay safe and always stay away from downed power lines.”
