2 dead, 1 injured in accident in Washtenaw County

A 26-year-old Ypsilanti Township man and a 23-year-old Wayne woman died this week in a two-vehicle crash on Michigan Avenue in Washtenaw County, officials said.

Authorities also reported that another person was in critical condition but was expected to survive.

The accident occurred around 4 p.m. Wednesday on the eastbound US-12 Bypass near Ecorse Road in the Ypsilanti neighborhood, the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Officials said it appears one vehicle crossed the center line of the road and collided head-on with the other. The Ypsilanti Township man was driving one of the vehicles and had a passenger, a 28-year-old woman from Superior Township. The Wayne woman was driving the second vehicle and its only passenger, according to police.
