Police: Three dead in head-on collision between bus at senior living facility in Maryland and dump truck

Three passengers on a senior living facility transport bus were killed in southern Maryland when their vehicle collided head-on with a dump truck, authorities said.

The accident was reported shortly before 8 a.m. Friday on Port Tobacco Road near Bowie Road, a few miles outside the town of Nanjemoy in southwest Charles County.

All three passengers on the bus, including the driver, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the dump truck was uninjured.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the westbound bus lost control, resulting in a head-on collision with the eastbound dump truck. Driver impairment is not believed to have played a role.

Port Tobacco Road remains closed while the Maryland State Police Accident Team investigates.

The identity of the deceased will be kept secret until the next of kin has been notified. The investigation is ongoing.
