Wilkes-Barre police investigate stabbing


WILKES BARRE, Pennsylvania. – Wilkes-Barre City Police are investigating an aggravated assault after a 38-year-old man was admitted to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital with a stab wound on the evening of September 9, 2024.

At approximately 10:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to the hospital where the victim, a Wilkes-Barre resident, was found with a stab wound to his left shoulder. The victim did not cooperate with officers and only stated that the stabbing occurred “somewhere in Wilkes-Barre.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police have not yet identified a specific location or suspect involved in the stabbing.

  • Cumberland man arrested for making threats of mass violence

    CUMBERLAND, Maryland - A 61-year-old Cumberland man was arrested following a disturbance on York Place and faces charges including threatening mass violence, according to Cumberland police.

    Hallie Hansford Holder was taken into custody on Thursday, September 12, 2024, after officers responded to reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found that Holder had threatened to shoot several people at the scene and had repeated those threats to officers.

    Holder was initially transported to a medical facility for evaluation and a motion to arraign was filed, which resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant. He was arrested later that same day and appeared before a District Court Commissioner. Holder was booked into the Allegany County Detention Center and is being held without bail.

    Holder faces several charges, including threatening mass violence, telephone abuse, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and insubordination.

  • Ocean County man sentenced to 50 years in prison for murdering his wife and disposing of her body

    FREEHOLD, NJ — An Ocean County man was sentenced to 50 years in prison for strangling his wife and dumping her body on the side of a road in Ocean Township, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago. The verdict was announced Friday.

    Jeremy B. Cruz, 53, of Forked River, was sentenced on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, for first-degree murder before Judge Jill G. O'Malley in Monmouth County Superior Court.

    Under New Jersey's No Early Release Act (NERA), Cruz must serve at least 85% of his sentence before he can be released on parole.

    Police found his wife's body on the side of the road.

    "On Sunday, October 30, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a woman who appeared to have sustained serious injuries was observed by a concerned motorist at the intersection of Asbury Avenue and Colonial Avenue in the Township of Ocean. When officers from the Ocean Township Police Department arrived, they located the victim, identified as Dawn Cruz, who was pronounced dead at the scene," police reported at the time.

    Cruz was convicted of murder on April 24, 2024, after a trial before Judge O'Malley.

    The incident occurred on October 30, 2022, when a motorist discovered the body of 51-year-old Dawn C. Cruz, who had suffered serious injuries, on Colonial Avenue near Asbury Avenue in Ocean Township. Officers who arrived pronounced her dead at the scene.

    Around the same time, Jeremy Cruz turned himself in to authorities at the Berkeley Township Police Department in Ocean County. A joint investigation by the Monmouth County District Attorney's Office and several law enforcement agencies led to his arrest and subsequent indictment in January 2023.

    During the trial, the state successfully refuted Cruz's defense that he was drunk at the time of the murder.

  • Alexandria police investigate after man found dead at intersection

    ALEXANDRIA, Virginia – Alexandria Police are conducting a death investigation after an adult male was found dead overnight at the intersection of John Carlyle Street and Ballenger Avenue.

    Authorities said the death appears to have a medical background, but the investigation is ongoing. No further details about the deceased or the circumstances have been released.

    The area was not cordoned off and police did not believe there was an immediate threat to the public.
