Man from China Township dies after accident on Marine City Highway

A 60-year-old man from China Township died in a traffic accident on Thursday.

According to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, the man was traveling eastbound on a motorcycle with a 57-year-old woman from China Township on Marine City Highway near the intersection with Marsh Road when at approximately 6:26 p.m. a passenger vehicle driven by a 19-year-old woman from Cottrellville Township attempted to make a left turn from the northbound lane of Marsh Road into the westbound lane of the highway.

Erikay Hyrnyk, spokeswoman for the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, said there was a stop sign at the Marsh Road intersection, but it was unknown if failure to yield was a factor in the accident.

The motorcycle struck the car. Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were transported by Tri-Hospital EMS to McLaren Macomb, where the man was later pronounced dead. The woman in the car suffered minor injuries and was also transported to McLaren Macomb.

The investigation into the accident is still ongoing. The Marine City fire department was also dispatched to the scene of the accident.
