Justin Timberlake appeared in court on Friday in connection with his drunken driving arrest in June.

The former *NSYNC star pleaded guilty to a lesser offense and was sentenced to 25-40 hours of community service.

Timberlake reached a plea deal with prosecutors before the hearing. Details of the agreement were not disclosed, but a person familiar with the deal said Timberlake agreed to plead guilty to a less serious offense: driving while impaired, a traffic violation punishable by a $300 to $500 fine and a 90-day license suspension.

Timberlake had “bloodshot and shiny” eyes, “his breath smelled strongly of alcohol” and he was “unable to divide his attention,” the lawsuit states. The “Cry Me A River” singer also exhibited “slowed speech” and was “unsteady on his feet.”

Ed Burke Jr., Timberlake's lawyerhad previously claimed that the police had made “significant errors” in arresting the musician in June.

“The most important thing to understand about this case is that Justin was not drunk and should not have been arrested for drunk driving,” Burke said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “The police made a number of serious errors in this case. In court today, you heard the prosecutor attempt to correct one of those errors. But that is just one, and there are many others. Sometimes the police make mistakes, and this is just one of those cases.”

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) criticized Timberlake’s agreement.

“MADD does not support settlements in cases involving drunk driving because we believe justice should prevail for such a serious crime,” a spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Driving while intoxicated is a dangerous and reckless decision that puts lives at risk, and the consequences should reflect the severity of that decision. Settlements reduce the severity of drunk driving, a violent crime that kills and injures thousands of people each year.”

“MADD has asked Mr. Timberlake to do the right thing by using his significant platform to raise awareness of the dangers of driving while under the influence and to help prevent this crime,” the statement continued. “While it has been reported that Mr. Timberlake will produce a PSA with MADD, we have not been officially contacted by his representatives. MADD will continue to advocate for justice and accountability in every case of driving while under the influence, and we hope that Timberlake's future decisions reflect the seriousness of this issue and make a meaningful contribution to our cause.”

Timberlake spoke about his arrest for drunk driving, which happened days later during his Chicago stop on “The Forget The World Tomorrow Tour.”

“It's been a rough week,” the ten-time Grammy winner told his fans at the United Center during his first performance since his arrest. “I know it's hard to love me sometimes, but you guys love me over and over again.”

The “Bye Bye Bye” singer faced heavy criticism earlier this year when Britney Spears wrote about their relationship in her memoir. The pop star claimed the former couple had an abortion and she addressed Timberlake's infamous “Cry Me A River” music video, which featured a Spears lookalike.

Spears claimed the media portrayed her as a “whore who broke the heart of America's golden boy.”

Timberlake took the stage shortly afterwards and appeared to respond to Spears by saying, “I want to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely no one.”
