“One of the biggest fires we’ve ever had,” says fire chief

LOYAL, Wis. (WEAU) – More information is available about the fire that broke out last night and devastated downtown Loyal.

Fire Chief Scott Radue told our photojournalist on the scene that the fire destroyed three businesses and apartments above them.

Three families were displaced. The Red Cross is supporting them.

Radue said this was “one of the biggest fires we’ve ever had.”

A Loyal resident said this was a major blow to the town.

“Yes, there is a laundromat that people here in town definitely use. There is a food bank for those who are a little underprivileged and need help there. And the fitness center. So that will undoubtedly have an impact on the town,” said Ken McEwen, Loyal resident.

This morning, some of the buildings affected by the fire were still smoking. Firefighters were working to prevent another fire from flaring up.
