CUBS VS DODGERS — If the Cubs had completed the sweep in LA and not lost the winnable game against the Pirates, they might still have a chance. But they lost both and are still 5.0 games behind two teams with just 16 games left. Sure, if they win (or maybe even go 14-2), they might still have a chance, but that's pretty much the only possibility right now. However, the schedule hits another weak spot starting this weekend.

The Rockies are the second-worst team in the National League, although they are always harder to play against in Colorado (where they have a .464 winning percentage) than anywhere else (.295 winning percentage). Still, they are a terrible team for whom nothing matters other than the order of draft selection.

In addition, the Rockies get three right-handers from the Cubs this weekend – Assad, Taillon, Hendricks – and they have the NL's worst offense against right-handed pitchers this season: .245/.307/.401 (84 wRC+, 89 wRC+ at Coors).

Only the White Sox were worse in the MLB.

On the other hand, the Rockies start this series with two left-handers, which bodes well for the Cubs, who had the fifth-best offense against left-handed pitchers in the second half of the season. And they're in good company, too:

wRC+ leaderboard vsLHP in the second half

  1. Phillies: 146 wRC+
  2. D-Backs: 124 wRC+
  3. Dodgers: 115 wRC+
  4. Braves: 114 wRC+
  5. Boys: 113 wRC+

In case you're wondering, Kris Bryant is on the injured list.
