A Fayetteville-area mother is pleading for answers after her son was injured in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident.

Katrina Rich said her son, Qyaron Gadson, 18, was riding his dirt bike when he was struck by another vehicle. He was not wearing a helmet.

Gadson, a junior at Cape Fear High School, was on his way to visit his girlfriend, his mother said. The accident happened five minutes from his girlfriend's house.

The driver fled the scene of the accident. A Good Samaritan rushed to the road after the accident to make sure Gadson was not hit by another vehicle.

Gadson was taken to UNC Hospitals at Chapel Hill in critical condition, suffering head trauma, facial and mouth injuries and broken ribs. His mother said his right eye was split in half and he nearly lost his right arm.

His mother said Gadson is recovering despite being on a ventilator and a feeding tube.

Rich is a foster mother and cares for 14 children, including her biological children.

Gadson's cousin set up a GoFundMe page for the family to help pay medical bills, writing, “My cousin has a heart of gold… he loves fishing and gardening for other people, especially the elderly.”

Family members say Gadson has already undergone four surgeries and has several more to come.

The State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident as a hit-and-run, but said Friday that there was no new information about the driver or vehicle.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call dispatch at 919-733-7952 or *HP.
