Deontay Wilder's trainer insists he will fight again, does he want Joshua or Ngannou

Deontay Wilder's trainer Malik Scott says he will fight again and believes mega fights against Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou are possible. Unfortunately, Wilder has not looked good since Malik Scott started training in 2021.

Wilder turns 39 in October and appears to have nothing left in the tank after being knocked out in three of his last five fights. He made heavy-hitting slugger Tyson Fury look like a knockout artist, and that's not easy to do.

Many fans believe that Deontay (44-4-1, 42 KOs) should have fired Scott a long time ago because he no longer throws his right hook and doesn't fight as aggressively as he did before the two worked together.

A new trainer should be a priority for Deontay if he is serious about continuing his career and competing in the big fights against Joshua and Ngannou.

Wilder’s struggles since Scott’s hiring

  1. Zhilei Zhang: TKO 5 losses
  2. Joseph Parker: UD 12 defeat
  3. Robert Helenius: KO 1 win
  4. Tyson Fury: KO 11 defeat

Malik lets Wilder run around the ring instead of attacking his opponents, and that style has been toxic to the Bronze Bomber's career. He doesn't fight well when he's moving, and he lacks the leg strength and stamina to use that approach without getting tired.

Since taking over as Deontay's trainer, Wilder has a 1-3 record, with his only win coming in 2022 against his former sparring partner Rober Helenius.

The former WBC heavyweight champion has lost four of his last five fights and looks like a shadow of the fighter he was in his prime from 2015 to 2017.

For Wilder to get a fight against Anthony Joshua, he will likely need to get one or two solid wins to secure a good opponent. Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn will not be keen to arrange a fight against Wilder, given his recent losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.

It's understandable why Malik Scott wants Wilder to keep fighting. It's a great paying job and he doesn't train anyone who makes as much money as Wilder.

Why wouldn't Malik want Wilder to keep fighting? However, the chances of Deontay getting fights against Joshua and Ngannou are pretty slim unless he gets a win against one or two of the top 10 contenders.

Good options for Deontay:

– Martin Bakole
– Agit Kabayel
– Filip Hrgovi
– Bakhodir Jalalov
– Jarrell Miller
– Jared Anderson
– Richard Torrez Jr.
