Boone County man found guilty in fatal head-on collision in 2023

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A Florence man faces possible up to 35 years in prison after a jury found him guilty in connection with a fatal head-on collision in 2023.

Christopher Jackson was charged with murder, reckless endangerment, criminal damage and driving under the influence in February 2024.

Independence police said they were called to an accident on Industrial Road in Florence shortly before 4 p.m. on Dec. 22.

When officers arrived, they found 41-year-old Jackson walking on the street next to his car, which had severe front end damage.

Gordon Torline was found unconscious and trapped under the dashboard of his vehicle.

Torline had to be cut from his car and taken to the hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries in January 2024.

According to Kenton County police, a crash reconstruction team determined that Jackson's car struck a curb with its passenger tires and then veered out of its lane, rounded a curve and directly into the path of Torline's oncoming vehicle.

According to police, Jackson failed several breathalyzer tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.241 at the time of the accident, more than three times the legal limit in Kentucky.

Police also found that Jackson was traveling at a speed of approximately 99 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone.

The prosecutor said Jackson's final sentencing will take place sometime in October. He faces up to 35 years in prison.
