Report of a suspicious person on the Delgado campus in New Orleans

The New Orleans Police Department responded to the Delgado Community College campus Friday morning after a man threatened the life of a student, according to police. According to NOPD, officers received a report of a suspicious person entering a building on Marconi Drive in the 600 block of City Park Avenue around 10 a.m. According to Delgado Police Chief Warren Riley, a man who was not a student at the school entered the building and brandished a gun on his waistband in front of a student with whom he had previously been in a fight. A janitor intervened and ordered the person to leave the building. As a precaution, students locked the building's doors, but a lockdown was never ordered and there is no threat to campus. Delgado police and NOPD searched the building and believe the person fled campus. The all-clear has been given and operations will resume as usual. The NOPD said the man left campus in a gray Infiniti sedan and is currently being sought. The man is described as approximately 30 years old, wearing glasses, black twirled hair, and has tattoos on the left side of his neck and the inside of his right forearm. Delgado issued the following statement about the incident: “This morning on the City Park Campus in Building 1 of Delgado Community College, an incident occurred between a student and a non-student in which the non-student displayed a weapon. Delgado Campus Police immediately responded and are coordinating the investigation with local police who are active. Some staff and students were aware of the incident and sought shelter as a precaution. Witnesses and Campus Police confirmed the individual left the scene in a gray vehicle. Campus Police conducted a thorough inspection of the campus and facilities. No one was injured. Currently, the campus is secured and normal operations have resumed.” Anyone with information about the crime or the suspect is asked to call Third Precinct Detectives at 504-568-6030 or Crimestoppers anonymously at 504-822-1111.
