Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever fell to the two-time reigning WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces, losing 86-75 at home on Wednesday.

Aces star A'ja Wilson has been a model of consistency all year and has already won her third MVP award, recording her fourth double-double (27 points and 12 rebounds) in five games.

Alysha Clark and Tiffany Hayes played important roles as substitutes for Vegas, combining for 26 points.

Kelsey Mitchell was the Fever’s top scorer with 24 points.

Clark, who has turned around in the second half of the season, has returned to her old form, scoring 16 points but was inefficient, shooting 6 of 22 from the field and sinking just one of her 10 three-point attempts.

Criticism of the 2024 No. 1 overall pick has largely subsided thanks to her improvement on the court. Tonight, the reaction on social media was quite unforgiving.

Caitlin Clark had a terrible game. She has to get better, and I say that as a fan. If the 3 doesn't fall, you have to find other ways to score and, above all, be efficient #Fever

1 out of 9 … #Fever It's so different when Caitlin Clark doesn't get many 3s #Fever is rising

Las Vegas showed off its defensive strength, holding Indiana to 39.7 percent shooting from the field and forcing 14 turnovers. It was an impressive performance against one of the league's best offenses.

The Fever don't have to wait long for revenge for their defeat. They host the Aces again on Friday evening.

With the regular season quickly coming to a close, Indiana has no time to improve its playoff position after already securing a postseason spot. With four games left, it cannot afford to make a mistake in catching the Seattle Storm and moving into fifth place.
