Major delays reported after accident on Edens driveway near Old Orchard – NBC Chicago

According to Total Traffic, all lanes of the Edens Expressway between Old Orchard Road and Dempster Street have been reopened following an earlier multi-vehicle crash and fuel leak.

Due to the oil spill, lanes in both directions had to be closed initially. However, the northbound lanes were reopened shortly after 5:00 p.m. The southbound lanes were reopened shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Traffic was heavily backed up to the Tower Road exit, with delays reportedly lasting up to two hours as lanes between Old Orchard Road and Dempster Street were closed in both directions for clean-up operations.

According to Total Traffic Chicago, the accident involved a hazardous substance spill and at least two other vehicles were involved. Injuries were reported at the scene.

Illinois State Police later confirmed that a three-vehicle crash occurred in the lanes of I-94 near Old Orchard Road, in which a commercial vehicle caused a chain reaction with two other vehicles.

The accident caused diesel fuel to spill from the commercial vehicle, which is why lanes in both directions had to be closed for clean-up work.

The drivers of the other two vehicles involved were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries.

No further information was available.
