A 35-year-old woman is accused of punching a girl in the face after she answered questions on her homework incorrectly.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) announced on September 11 that officers were called to assist the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in its investigation into allegations of physical abuse of a minor.

After speaking with the DCF investigator, PBSO learned that Margaret Gissome was allegedly angry at a girl on Tuesday for doing her homework incorrectly.

According to the affidavit, Gissome allegedly grabbed the child by the collar and punched her in the face, causing a burst blood vessel in her left eye and a bruise on her left lower lip. The child reported that Gissome frequently hit her and her siblings.

According to the victim's statement, she told PBSO that Gissome – identified by the victim as “Miss” – allegedly began “shaking her with his fist and punching her in the face with the same hand” and that the girl “was punched in the mouth for giving an incorrect answer again.”

In addition, the victim said Gissome told her “not to worry about her lip because her nose was next” and then punched the child in the chest.

According to the arrest report, Gissome was arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on child abuse charges. Her bail was set at $2,500.
