ALDI now pays its employees up to $23 per hour and hires at least 13,000 employees

BATAVIA, Ill. (TND) — If you are looking for a job, ALDI has announced that the company is on the market (pun intended) for new employees.

The grocer announced Friday that it is hiring more than 13,000 store and warehouse employees in the U.S. and will pay workers up to $23 an hour.

“Whether it’s our in-store team stocking shelves with fresh produce, the warehouse staff managing logistics, or the drivers delivering our trendy ALDI finds, our associates deliver the faster, easier and more affordable shopping experience our customers know and love,” said Atty McGrath, president of ALDI, in a press release.

“Our ability to attract and retain talent has always been key to our success and we look forward to helping our new team members advance in their careers,” she added.

The press release noted that the new national average starting wage for open positions in ALDI stores and warehouses will be $18 and $23 per hour, respectively. The wage will also vary by market and position, according to the press release.

Employees who work more than 30 hours per week receive benefits such as health insurance and paid vacation. Other perks include flexible work hours and paid parental and caregiver leave.

The company also announced that there will be opportunities for advancement over time, as 70 percent of assistant store managers and over 30 percent of store managers started as store associates and all managers began their careers in an ALDI store.

“Since I started as a store associate at ALDI 16 years ago, I have taken on new roles including store manager and shopping assistant. Today, I work as a warehouse manager,” Danielle, an ALDI employee from Wisconsin, noted in the press release. “What I love most about working at ALDI is that I have found a truly meaningful career. I have had the opportunity to grow personally and professionally without ever losing the part of my job that I love most: greeting my team and our customers in the aisles with a smile.”

According to the press release, ALDI serves millions of customers across the country every month.

This news comes at a time when many Americans are trying to protect their budgets.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday that inflation has skyrocketed during President Joe Biden's tenure in the White House. The bureau reported that prices rose 9.1% in June 2022 from a year earlier, a 40-year high.

Kelsey Aubrey, who lives in North Palm Beach, Florida, was shopping at ALDI earlier this week. She said she usually visits up to four or five stores in search of the cheapest grocery prices.

“We're hopping from store to store, trying to save where we can,” she said. “Our bills are still pretty high. And we work a lot to pay the bills.”
