New streaming TV shows and movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Apple TV and more

Mafia bosses, sword-fighting cats, killers and spies and the best new star Wars Show for ages. The weekend is just around the corner and there is a bunch of new things to watch this weekend on all your favorite streaming services—though next weekend is even bigger, with even more highly anticipated shows coming.

In any case, you'll definitely have plenty to choose from in the guide below, from plenty of family-friendly options to the Emmy Awards and more.

You can check out last weekend’s streaming guide here:

ForbesWhat to watch this weekend: New streaming TV shows and movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Apple TV and more

Alright, let’s get started right away!

The Emmy Awards 2024 (ABC or Hulu+Live / YouTube TV)

The 76th Emmy nominations will air live on ABC on Sunday, September 15 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. If you have Hulu+Live TV or YouTube TV, you can stream the awards show live. Otherwise, it will stream on Hulu the next day. I haven't been following the awards and nominations closely, although I recently commented on how absurd I found it that True Detective: Nightland has received 19 nominations. This show was terrible! Anyway, Dan and Eugene Levy are hosting this year's Emmys, so that's fun!

Civil War (HBO / Max)

I liked it very much Civil War and strongly disagreed with criticisms that the politics were too vague or not sufficiently applicable to the real world. In fact, I think it was a stroke of genius on Alex Garland's part to present a fictional civil war with sides and stakes that are alien to us – but in a setting that is very familiar. You can watch it this weekend on HBO/Max and decide for yourself. Read my Civil War Review here.

Emily in Paris, Season 4, Part 2 (Netflix)

The blurb is pretty succinct: “Chicago marketing executive Emily Cooper is hired to bring an American perspective to a marketing firm in Paris.” I've never watched it, but it's a very popular Netflix series with some romantic comedy elements, and the second half of season four is streaming now.

A pile Scooby Doo And Tom and Jerry Animated films (HBO/Max)

On Saturday a whole series of Scooby Doo And Tom and Jerry Cartoons are landing on Max, so if you have kids looking for something to watch, this is a great opportunity to get them into some great old cartoons. Just don't let them stumble Velma afterwards by accident. Shiver.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (Prime Video)

Is generally considered one of the – if not The-best of the Puss in Boots Movies featuring the charming title character voiced by Antonio Banderas. The film is available now on Prime Video and should make for a fun family movie night this weekend.

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy (Disney+)

Somehow I think this could be the star Wars Show we've all been waiting for – after so many disappointments with Disney live-action films. In this trailer alone, we see a jaded Luke Skywalker summing up his movie character development in the funniest and most apt way, Darth Jar Jar Binks and so much more. Plus a fantastic voice cast that includes Mark Hamill. The first episode of the four-part “special event” comes out Friday. I can't wait!

The Old Man, Season 2 (Hulu)

I suddenly remembered that I never finished watching the first season of the spy thriller starring Jeff Bridges on Hulu. The old man. The FX-produced series stars Bridges and John Lithgow and deals with two timelines, terrorism, assassins, and plenty of other exciting dramatic highlights. I got distracted and forgot about it. I think I need to catch the rest of the first season so I can watch the second season, which comes out tonight. I definitely recommend you give it a try.

Premiere of the 2nd season of Tulsa King (Paramount+)

In Taylor Sheridan's mafia series, Sylvester Stallone plays Dwight “The General” Manfredi, an exiled mafia lord who is sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to expand organized crime into the provinces. There, he assembles his own gang and finds himself surrounded on all sides. The second season premieres this Sunday.

KAOS (Netflix)

Yes, I know this series has been on Netflix for a few weeks, but somehow I never included it in my streaming guide. Last night I started watching it and I really enjoyed the first episode. It's an alternate universe where the Greek gods are very real and very much rule over a modern society, often with malicious intentions and motives. So far I really like it, especially thanks to the great cast: Jeff Goldblum as an insecure Zeus, Killian Scott as Orpheus, Aurora Perrineau as Eurydice, Nabhaan Rizwan (who I last saw in the excellent Station Eleven) as Dionysus and a number of other great actors.

The Killer's Game (in cinemas)

Dave Bautista stars in this killer action film opposite his Guardians of the Galaxy Co-star Pom Klementieff. The comedic, blood-soaked film (from the studio that John Wick) also stars Terry Crews, Scott Adkins, Ben Kingsley and Sofia Boutella, fresh from their disastrous Rebel Moon Trip. At the time of writing, there are no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but you can watch the film right now.

Current TV shows

I am currently watching several shows that I will list below, but I also wanted to mention a few upcoming shows that I will also be covering. These include Agatha all the time (September 18 on Disney+), penguin (September 19 on HBO/Max), OUT OF Season 3 (September 22 on MGM+) and probably others I've forgotten. There's a lot to look forward to this month!

I especially want Apple TVs Sunny whose first season ended last week with a spectacular twist in the finale. What a great show! I haven't written a review yet, but I highly recommend it. So, what else is streaming each week…

Slow Horses Season 4 (Apple TV+)

The best – and often funniest – spy series on TV returns this week, with season four premiering last Wednesday (here’s my review). Gary Oldman returns as the mephitic Jackson Lamb, one of the greatest British spies of all time – albeit a little less elegant than James Bond and a little less decorous than George Smiley. He is in charge of Slough House, a purgatory for MI5 “outcasts”, which includes the rest of our heroes, including the bright, young River Cartwright (Jack Lowden). His boss Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) remains at number two at MI5, and the first desk is now occupied by the bumbling Claude Whelan – played by Battlestar Galactica Alumnus James Callis. The first two episodes were great – so good that you can't wait for the next episode to come out!

Only Murders in the Building, Season 4 (Hulu)

The gang is back and has solved one of the most gruesome – but still hilarious – mysteries Arconia has ever faced. Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) are back as our podcast detectives, only this time the murder is much closer to Charles. Season four features even more celebrity cameos than ever before – I'm excited to see how that turns out – as Hollywood is planning to make a movie based on the podcast. So far, I've really enjoyed the first three episodes of the season, which have plenty of suspects and clues, but no real whodunits yet. You can read my review here.

Bad Monkey (Apple TV)

I love this show. Vince Vaughn is at his best. Natalie Martinez makes me melt. Tom Nowicki should be the narrator. everything. And the rest of the cast – Zach Braff, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Michelle Monaghan, John Ortiz, Ronald Peet – is absolutely amazing. This is one of the best cast shows I've seen in a while. It's also hilarious, has a great twisted mystery, and every time an episode ends I groan because I know I have to wait another week. Still, it's nice to look forward to each new episode.

The Rings of Power (Prime Video)

Not so much Lord of the rings because it is expensive fan fiction financed by Jeff Bezos, The Rings of Power is still one of my favorite shows to write about and make videos about – because it's just so bad! If you like it, that's great. There aren't enough fantasy shows, after all. It's just not my thing. You can read my latest review of episode 5 here.

Bonus: I just started watching it again Severance pay for the third time on Apple TV, this time with my brother who hasn't seen it yet. It's so good! If you haven't seen it yet, please watch season 1 before the next season comes out in 2025.
