Avery Johnson explains his preparations for Arizona

Before Kansas State's game against Arizona on Friday, quarterback Avery Johnson spoke to members of the media.

Here's what Johnson had to say about preparing for the game against Arizona on a short week:

“Everything is kind of sped up and squashed a little bit. It's different because we were in the building on a Sunday, which is not usual. We come in and relax and then we watch the film from the day before. So you have to kind of wrap it all up in the morning and then do a walkthrough, an extended walkthrough. We did a little walkthrough yesterday to get all the bodies moving and stuff.

And then practices are going to be a little bit shorter, a little bit easier than a normal week just because we have less time to recover, less time to get our bodies in shape. And I mean, we played a full four-quarter game on Saturday, so the coaches are just trying to take care of us. But we just have to be more mentally focused this week at practice and do a lot more mental reps because our practices are going to be shortened by 10-15 minutes.”

Johnson also talked about the challenges Arizona’s defense presents:

“Really talented team. They're really good at what they do defensively and they've been able to show that in the past and I'm really excited to be able to play another talented team this week because I feel like Tulane has a really talented defense and Arizona is really talented as well. So I'm really excited to be able to play against those guys and be able to compete against them on Friday night.”
