Austin murder suspect arrested for fatal 2021 stabbing

A murder suspect in connection with a fatal stabbing in South Austin in 2021 has been arrested, U.S. Marshals said.

U.S. Marshals said Mithovar Christopher Antoine Jr., 22, is a suspect wanted in a murder that occurred on July 23, 2021, in the 2000 block of S. I-35 in Austin.

The victim called police and said he had been stabbed. Life-saving measures were taken, but he later died.

On September 11, 2024, law enforcement authorities were served with an arrest warrant for Antoine.

Members of the U.S. Marshals began an investigation and arrested Antoine in the Temple.

Antoine was taken to the Bell County Jail where he awaits further court proceedings and extradition.

What happened in July 2021?

According to APD, Austin's 911 emergency number received a call shortly before 10:30 p.m. on July 23 from the victim, 23-year-old Nikolas Eugenio Martinez, who said he had been stabbed.

Martinez was able to drive a short distance to a convenience store in the 2000 block of West Frontage Road on S. I-35. Several people there attempted to help him, APD says, until officers and ATCEMS arrived.

According to APD, officers and emergency responders found Martinez with a life-threatening stab wound and despite life-saving measures, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:47 p.m.
