13-year-old among two dead after SUV crashes into building in Immokalee; driver charged with manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol

Two people died when a red SUV plowed into a building in Immokalee Friday morning. The at-fault driver of the SUV was 24-year-old Walner Nelson of Immokalee, who was arrested and is charged with manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the SUV plowed into the Physical Therapy Center of Immokalee building at 212 S First St. According to FHP, the SUV veered off the road and into the parking lot before colliding with two unoccupied vehicles and the building. Two pedestrians, a 48-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman from Immokalee, were inside the building and were seriously injured in the crash. They were taken to an area hospital, FHP troopers said. According to FHP, two passengers in the SUV, a 20-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy, died. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the 13-year-old boy died at the hospital. A toddler and a 1-year-old child were also in the SUV. FHP said they suffered minor injuries. Nelson suffered minor injuries and is currently facing the following charges: 2 counts of DUI Manslaughter 2 counts of Intoxication Manslaughter FHP said he will face additional criminal charges and has been booked into the Collier County Jail. Two people died when a red SUV crashed into a building in Immokalee on Friday morning.

The at-fault driver of the SUV was 24-year-old Walner Nelson of Immokalee, who was arrested and faces a charge of DUI manslaughter.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the SUV crashed into the Physical Therapy Center of Immokalee building at 212 S First St.

According to FHP, the SUV left the road, entered the parking lot and then collided with two unoccupied vehicles and the building.

Two pedestrians, a 48-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman from Immokalee, were inside the building and suffered serious injuries in the crash. They were taken to an area hospital, FHP officials said.

According to FHP, two passengers in the SUV died, a 20-year-old woman from Immokalee and a 13-year-old boy. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 13-year-old boy died at the hospital.

A toddler and a one-year-old were also in the SUV. According to FHP, they suffered minor injuries.

Nelson suffered minor injuries and is currently facing the following charges:

  • 2 cases of manslaughter under the influence of alcohol
  • 2 cases of negligent homicide

FHP said he was facing additional criminal charges and was booked into the Collier County Jail.

The crash is currently being investigated.
