Sewak Tiwari appeared in Licking County Court Friday afternoon on a charge of first-degree child abduction.

LATEST STORIES:

Tiwari is believed to have taken the child from the Newark area around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday. An AMBER alert was issued for the child shortly afterward.

According to a previous report by News Center 7, Sewak is the non-custodial father of the child.

According to police, Tiwari threatened the mother and baby and then took the girl with him.

“The defendant allegedly kidnapped the 11-month-old child during the incident. He allegedly made threats including, quote, 'We'll be dead before they find us,'” a Licking County prosecutor said in court. “The evidence against the defendant is strong. He made several incriminating confessions regarding his escape from police and hiding the child.”

According to WBNS-10 TV, officers from the Columbus Division of Police found Tiwari and the baby at a hotel in the area around 6:55 p.m.

The child was unharmed and Tiwari was taken into police custody without incident.

According to television channel WBNS-10, Tiwari was released from prison on September 6 for a domestic violence case involving the same victim.

The judge ordered that Tiwari should not have any contact with the mother and child.
