Man who shot two people in North Jersey park arrested, police said

A man was arrested Thursday night after being accused of shooting two people in an Orange park, officials said.

Police were called to Metcalf Park because shots had been fired there. According to a city spokesman, the shooting was captured on footage from a video surveillance system installed in the park.

When police arrived, they saw the shooter running from the scene and fleeing in a previously stolen car, investigators said.

After a chase, the suspect was arrested near the NJ Transit station in Orange, authorities said.

The man arrested was not identified and it was unclear whether charges had been filed against him.

Two people suffered gunshot wounds in the park and were taken to a local hospital for treatment, officials said. Their conditions were unclear Friday evening.

According to the city's website, Metcalf Park is a municipal facility with a baseball field, basketball court, playground, swimming pool and other community amenities.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact Orange police.
