Weld County Drug Task Force investigation leads to arrest of former drug offender

A convicted felon remains in custody at the Weld County Jail after a drug task force investigation discovered illegal narcotics at his home in Evans.

Earlier this year, the Weld County Drug Task Force learned that 45-year-old Jade Mikel Shane was allegedly selling large quantities of illegal narcotics from his home in Evans, according to a Greeley police news release.

The Weld County Sheriff's Office and the Greeley Police Department SWAT team secured Shane's home in the 3200 block of 11th Avenue before the task force executed a search warrant. During the search, “distributed quantities of narcotics and multiple firearms” were found, the news release states.

According to police, Shane's house contained over half a pound of meth, 1,440 counterfeit M-30 pills suspected of containing fentanyl, 16.5 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and 12 firearms, including a pistol stolen from Greeley.

On September 5, law enforcement took Shane to the Weld County Jail on charges of a special offense and two drug offenses. He will appear for a hearing on September 20 at 8:30 a.m.

Police reported that Shane's prior criminal history dates back to 2013, when he was convicted of multiple serious drug offenses in Weld County. He was convicted by the Colorado Department of Corrections of three serious felonies – possession of two grams or less of meth in 2013, possession of a firearm by a previous offender in 2014, and possession with intent to resell in 2014.

Those convictions resulted in a 14-year prison sentence, of which he only served seven of the 14 years, according to the press release. Shane was on probation for one year and six months prior to his most recent arrest.

Police are asking anyone who has not yet been interviewed by officers and who has information about this case to contact Commander Scott Smith at (970) 351-5211.
