Library closed after teenage fights outside spread to RTA center

“The youths initially appeared to leave the area, but then a group returned and attempted to fight with other youths,” said Dayton Police Major Brian Hall. “The main offender was immediately arrested.”

When the crowd did not leave the area, more youths were taken into custody.

“The crowd of young people remained very agitated and eventually dispersed,” Hall added.

Some of the youths then went to the RTA Wright Stop Plaza at 4 S. Main St., and the fighting continued.

Officers again attempted to break up the fight and clear the scene. Another youth was arrested and the rest were cleared from the area.

A 14-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were taken to the juvenile detention center and the case was forwarded to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

The Dayton Metro Library closed the main branch at 4:53 p.m. Thursday to protect patrons and staff, a library spokesperson said. Other branches were not affected, and the main library resumed normal hours Friday.
