Why are “Selling Sunset” stars Chelsea and Bre arguing?

Pioneertown was famously left out.

Sell sunsetThe eighth season of The 4000 clocks in at a solid six and a half hours in total. That's short for a reality show, especially one that's more about avoiding having your own personal problems aired on a TV series than it is about real estate. The finale ends with Chelsea Lazkani imagining a new life as a divorcee in a house in the Hills and Bre Tiesi threatening to bring gossip Amanda Lynn — who excitedly told her about Chelsea's husband's affair in episode three — into the O-group. We're supposed to believe that Bre has had a change of heart over the course of this season: At first, she seems open to building a friendship with Chelsea and settling their dispute once and for all — until Chelsea turns on her over the news of her husband's affair. Chelsea's accusation that Bre brought this on camera out of revenge is presented as the reason for Bre to put on her blondest villain wig and strut into the office in black leather, but that's where the story ends. Unless you follow all these women on Instagram. And you really should, because there's a lot to follow!

Bre stressed on the show that she was reluctant to bear the burden of Chelsea's husband making out with a woman in the lobby of the W Hotel. She constantly reminded the audience that she had this information and didn't know what to do with it. Whenever Chelsea mentioned her family, she was interrupted, apparently wrestling with the fact that a revelation could further damage their already strained relationship. When she finally tells Chelsea in episode five, it's portrayed as Bre trying to be the stronger one, a surprisingly heartfelt moment in which two women seemingly come together, bonded by their shared humiliation at the hands of evil men. But that, according to Chelsea, isn't an accurate portrayal of what happened.

On September 9, 2024, Chelsea chatted with Jessie Woo on Instagram Live, where she explained that she knew exactly what Bre was going to tell her before they even sat down. According to what she said on Instagram Live and what she already revealed on X, it was Chelsea who actually asked to set up the scene after hearing what Bre had learned. But she explained her thought process during the Live, noting that her goal was to get Bre to tell her the rumor so she wouldn't have a chance to keep repeating it in scenes with other cast members. She also revealed that this strategic move was only made possible by a tip-off from Emma Hernan.

When Chelsea, Bre, Chrishell Stause and Emma argue at the dog funeral in episode nine, Bre angrily reveals that Chrishell and Emma knew about the scene with Amanda before it even happened. For viewers, this is a little confusing, as it's not clear to us how much Chrishell and Emma actually knew about what Amanda was going to say. But Chelsea made it clear during the live stream that Emma knew what it was going to be about and called Chelsea to warn her in advance. This lines up with what Bre told Cosmopolitan UK in an interview on September 9: “They knew the information,” she said. “They knew. They can sit here and make up the story that helps them avoid being attacked online, or however they want to be perceived. But they were all very aware of that scene before it happened. They were aware of everything that was going on.”

This kind of chaos after the final – Chelsea also used the live video to show us the racist tweets allegedly written by Amanda – is not unique in Sell sunset. But in any other series, this is the kind of stuff we'd normally be taken through in a reunion episode, maybe even with big folders full of printed texts. It's unclear, however, whether this season of Sell sunset will have a reunion, as no date for such an event has been announced yet. The talent is also in a state of open rebellion against production over a rumor Nicole Young started about Emma, with Chrishell making it clear that she would rather be sued than appear on a show with Nicole again. Could the sun finally be setting? Sell sunset? Was the tea served so hot that it boiled over, ending the adventures of our stiletto-clad heroines forever? We've reached out to Netflix for comment, but for now, all we can do is wait and pray.
