16-year-old arrested in Orlando for allegedly threatening an officer online

ORLANDO, Florida. – Orlando police arrested a 16-year-old girl on Friday on suspicion of threatening a public official on social media.

In a press release, the agency said it had become aware of a social media post that threatened lethal force. The officer's name was not disclosed, but the U.S. Secret Service is assisting with the investigation.

The teenager, a student at Lake Nona High School, was taken into custody and is charged with making written/electronic threats to murder or physically harm.

The teenager was not identified.

The news comes after several days of increasing threats or rumors of threats at public schools across Central Florida. Several students have been arrested either for making threats or after weapons were found on school property.
