Escambia County fought to the bitter end but lost 13-6 to sixth-seeded Mobile Christian in regional play tonight at Hubert Barnes Field in Atmore.

The Blue Devils made a solid push in the fourth quarter after getting the ball back on a turnover and reached the red zone with more than three minutes left.

ECHS attempted three pass plays, but all were incomplete.

Vincent Harris, head coach of the Blue Devils, said the boys fought to the bitter end.

“You have to find a way to put it all together,” Harris said. “We held up (well) to the bitter end with the No. 6 team in the state. I'm proud of our performance. We have to finish some games. That's my big thing.”

The Blue Devils fall to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in Class 4A, Region 1. ECHS visits St. Michael on Sept. 20.

Escambia County's Tai Henderson scored the Blue Devils' only touchdown on the ground.

Harris said he was proud of the boys' performance, especially considering their 30-point loss to Jackson last week.

“I'm proud of our performance to beat the No. 6 so well,” he said. “This is a results-oriented business. We have to close the deal.”
