I-57 northbound reopened after fatal crash in southeast Missouri at 2 mm

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Missouri (KFVS) – The northbound lanes of Interstate 57 in Mississippi County have reopened following a fatal crash.

The accident occurred around 11:15 a.m. on Friday, September 13, near the 2-mile marker.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's online accident report, a 2013 Toyota Venza was traveling south on I-57 when it struck a Nelson GMK 5220 boom truck from behind, then crossed the center line and collided with a 2024 Freightliner traveling north.

The driver of the Venza, identified as 76-year-old Willie Miller of Ullin, Illinois, died at the scene.

Mississippi County Coroner Terry Parker was called to the scene.

A passenger on the Freightliner, a 38-year-old man from Michigan, was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with “minor” injuries.

The driver of the Nelson GMK 5220 boom truck, a 36-year-old man from Patton, Missouri, and the driver of the Freightliner, a 26-year-old man from Michigan, were reportedly uninjured.

A fatal crash blocks the northbound lanes of Interstate 57 in southeast Missouri.

According to Sergeant Clark Parrott of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the northbound lanes were closed for several hours.

Police and Missouri Department of Transportation officers diverted traffic to alternate routes.
