Canton father allegedly beat Plain Local bus driver

CANTON – A 30-year-old city man was being held in the Stark County Jail Friday on charges of striking a Plain Local Schools bus driver while children were in the vehicle.

Canton Municipal Court Judge Richard J. Kubilus set his bail at $75,000 on Friday. The judge ordered that he have no contact with the victim or witnesses.

The suspect was arrested Thursday on charges of assault, menacing, scaremongering and disrupting public services. Three of the charges are felonies. Menacing is a misdemeanor.

A complaint filed with Canton police alleges the defendant boarded the bus and punched the 65-year-old driver multiple times in the face and head. The incident occurred on Sept. 4 in the 3300 block of Daleford Avenue NE. It was reported to police at 4:58 p.m.
