Multi-vehicle accident on I-95 in Augusta leaves person and dog dead

A person and a dog are dead after a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Augusta, according to Maine State Police. Police said the crash occurred just before 3:10 p.m. Friday on I-95 South near Exit 113. Investigators said traffic was stopped due to a lane closure in a construction zone when a pickup truck struck an SUV, resulting in a five-vehicle crash. Police said a female passenger in the SUV that was struck by the truck was pronounced dead at the scene, as was a dog that was also in the SUV. All other injuries to those involved in the crash are considered non-life-threatening, according to police. The injured were taken to Maine General Hospital in Augusta. As a result of the accident, all southbound lanes on the highway were closed for more than two hours. Police said traffic on I-95 South was diverted from Exit 113 during the road closure. The northbound side of the highway was not affected by the accident. All lanes in the area were reopened as of 5:50 p.m.
