Woman stabbed and seriously injured in brawl in Chicago's Pilsen community

CHICAGO (CBS) – A woman was stabbed and seriously injured on Friday evening in the busy Halsted Street in Pilsen.

At 7:15 p.m., a 35-year-old woman got into an argument with another woman and a man near 23rd and Halsted streets. The argument escalated when the man produced a sharp object and stabbed the woman, police said.

The victim suffered a stab wound to the abdomen and one to the arm. She was taken to Cook County Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The scene of the stabbing was directly in front of the Pilsen migrant shelter at 2241 S. Halsted St. which is scheduled to close on October 1st.

Police did not immediately confirm reports that the stabbing was linked to the homeless shelter.

No one was in custody as of late Friday and the Belmont Area Criminal Investigation Department was investigating.
