Google News may be working on a redesign of the Home tab

Google News is one of the apps that aggregates the most important headlines from around the world in one place. Although Google also brings you the news in the Google app, if you're looking for a place that focuses specifically on news on Android, you probably browse Google News quite often.

Now, the folks at Android Authority have found hints of an upcoming change to Google News in the latest version of the app (5.115.0.670880469). According to the information discovered, Google seems to want to give the Google News app a new look for the Home tab.

The new look isn't officially released yet, of course, so we don't know when it will be unveiled publicly. Now, if you launch the Google News app as normal, you'll see the same news interface we're familiar with. But the update Google is working on will remove the For You and Headlines tabs, as you can see below:

It's a simplified representation, and while we can see that the data currently displayed doesn't look quite right, that may be because the feature is still being worked on and most likely the latest news will be displayed once it is fully developed and officially launched.

There is also information that they are working on migrating the app to a new framework, but as an end user, this should not have any impact that you would notice.

As mentioned, this new UI is not currently publicly available. I believe it will take some time to arrive. By the time it's released, it should be more refined (and display accurate, up-to-date messages). Right now, it seems a bit simpler than it should be, but we'll see how Google continues to flesh it out in the future and what additional changes it will undergo.

Personally, I think it's good to work on making an app's UI more user-friendly and streamlined. I'm always up for redesigns if they produce something better. We'll see if that's the case with this app, so stay tuned for now!
