Marine Corps recruiting officer charged with obscenity in parking lot

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana (KPLC) – A Marine Corps recruiting officer is accused of inappropriate conduct while sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot outside Target.

According to Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kayla Vincent, Sergeant Britian Tyler Shields, 25, was arrested on obscenity charges after witnesses observed him masturbating in his vehicle around noon Thursday.

A video of his arrest viewed by KPLC shows him in uniform.

Marine Corps officials confirmed that he works as a Marine recruiter at Recruiting Station Lake Charles.

“We are fully aware of his arrest and are fully cooperating with the Calcasieu Sheriff's Office,” said Cpl. Chandler Stacy, marketing and communications director for Recruiting Station Baton Rouge.

Shields is being held at the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

According to Captain Hudson Sadler, marketing director for the 6th Marine Corps Division, he has been suspended from his duty as a recruiting officer pending the results of the sheriff's office investigation.

His bail is set at $95,000.
