Trial set for man accused in car crash that killed Mount Joy siblings | Local news

The trial of a Florida man accused of killing two Mount Joy siblings when he ran a red light in East Petersburg is scheduled to begin Monday in Lancaster County court.

Cesar Torres, 40, drove his semi-trailer into a Ford Ranger driven by Brandie Leigh Kasper, 21, and Leonard Christian Kasper, 18, at the corner of Main Street and Graystone Road shortly after 9 p.m. on May 22, 2021.

The pickup truck tipped over and caught fire. The siblings were trapped inside. Torres' semi-trailer also caught fire, but he was uninjured.

Torres is charged with two counts each of vehicular manslaughter and negligent homicide, as well as one count each of disobeying a red light and driving at an unsafe speed. It is not clear how fast Torres was driving.

The trial is expected to last about two days and will begin with jury selection presided over by Judge Merrill Spahn.
