Penn State Football takes on opponents outside the conference

The Penn State football program has added an opponent to its future schedule.

According to FBSchedules.com, the Nittany Lions have added the UMass Minutemen to their 2028 non-conference schedule. The game will take place on September 16th.

With this agreement, Penn State has filled its 2028 non-conference schedule, which includes games against Ball State on Sept. 2 and Syracuse on Sept. 9.

The Penn State Big Ten schedule for 2028 includes games against Indiana, Iowa, Ohio State, Oregon and UCLA, as well as away games against Michigan State, Nebraska, Rutgers and USC.

As for UMass, it will join the MAC Conference as a full member effective July 1, 2025.

According to this report on FBSchedules, Penn State will pay UMass $1.6 million to travel to Beaver Stadium.

These two programs have played each other twice, and Penn State has won both times by large margins: Penn State 63-0 in 2023 and Penn State 48-7 in 2014.

Penn State football team’s future non-conference schedule:

2025: against Nevada, against Florida International, against Villanova

2026: against Marshall, in Temple, against Buffalo

2027: against Syracuse, against Delaware, against Temple

2028: against Ball State, at Syracuse, against UMass
